Many West Coast Eagles supporters have strange beliefs systems. Their club can do no wrong, no wrong that's serious at least. Because if it was serious they'd vote with their feet. Testament to this, the number of members who didn't renew their memberships after their revolting 2007 season was minimal.
Forgive and forget hey? For months I've been hearing about how this year will be different and that things are on the up.
Really?
Well, their top draft pick was involved in a drunken fight on the South Perth foreshore on Australia Day. He pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge and has been given a spent conviction. Well done Chris Masten.
He didn't even rock up to court, because apparently he was at training. I'm not convinced that's a good look. I don't think it shows his commitment, I think it shows the arrogance of the West Coast Eagles and their players' continued belief that they are above the law.
His lawyer argued that he should get a spent conviction because the West Coast had fined him and he had received adverse media attention. I think that's bollocks, being answerable to the club (and subsequently the media) is different to being answerable to the law. He should have received the same punishment that any old pleb would have got.
His lawyer also said he's received treatment for alcohol abuse. Clearly West Coast did their research very well before they picked him. Oh but he's done charity work. Jeez you should have said, it's all OK now!
A sign of things to come maybe. I am looking forward to the club's response to the AFL report about the club's off-field antics.

If he was a freo player it may not have made it to the press.
If he was a Freo player I still wouldn't have heard the end of it.
Yeah but everyone else would be none the wiser.
The problem is not just with the Eagles. We hear this from the West media and i'm positive that this kinda thing happens over in the eastern states and sth aust aswell. So Footy On Ice I reckon you should do your homework before bagging one particular club, one that seems easy to target because everyone knows about the Eagles and have had a spotlight on them.
I will scrutinise all the clubs, you know I will. But West Coast are still accountable, and should still be held accountable
The antics of their players shouldn't be glossed over just because they've had the spotlight on them.
Yea well I bet with my highly stressful job and all the after hours activities that I do I will be able to find dirt on players from outside WA before you...
Michael Gardner! There you go I win, c'mon Miss Field start doing your job:P
He's old news. Yeah I can't imagine you'll find time between striking and oh, striking, to surf the net much at all!
Miss Field you should be an English teacher, Who's with me!
As a renewed Eagles member I'd like to think we've all renewed because there are ~7000 paid up waiting list members..That's right. It costs $40 a season to be on the waiting list for a WA membership so if you don't renew you'll not see live footy again til the Kitchener Park Stadium in 201?
Ah yes, In the Wings memberships... you get to pay for the honour of selling West Coast raffle tickets!
Actually during the week of the home games about ~3000 tickets go on sale to the general public. It is very possible to get tickets, you just have to be on the ball.
